Alice Scudella, age 99, will be remembered as the quick-witted matriarch who enjoyed life until the very end. Late of Hoffman Estates, IL, she previously resided in Palos Heights, IL., for 53 years, and in several neighborhoods on Chicago's South Side. Alice was born one of eight children in the Friuli region of Italy in the village of Adegliacco. She met her husband, Frank late in World War II while he was serving in the US 5th Army and was stationed in her village. After writing letters for two years across the Atlantic, he returned to Adegliacco, where they wed on August 10, 1947. They settled in Chicago, where Frank had lived most of his life, and where Alice taught herself English from TV and newspapers. Alice was the loving mother to three children, Frank V. (the late Patrice), David (Beverly Johnson) and Diana (Dan ReCupido); beloved Nonna to 6 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister in Italy and many extended family members. Alice worked as a seamstress for many years, first at Society Brand clothes and later at various custom drapery shops, including Fabric Mart. She loved gardening and took pride in her flower beds and vegetable garden (and would often send you home with her bounty). She also loved spending time with her family, never missed an important event, and occasionally enjoyed a good glass of wine or a cocktail. Alice loved opera music and was often heard singing her favorite Italian arias. Her legacy lives on in recipes, humorous anecdotes, and her descendants who continue to speak their minds.
Visitation and Funeral Services will be private. Burial will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
