Bernard Frank Guentner

September 29, 1927 — August 21, 2024

Bern Guentner of Palos Park, formally of Chicago, Arlington Heights, Mercer Island, WA and St. Petersburg, FL. Devoted son of the late: John and Anna (nee Koller) Guentner. Beloved husband of Phyllis (nee Fencl) and the late Beverly (nee Geffe). Loving father of Valerie (Rick) Merner, Natalie Wickless & Robert (Gini). Cherished grandfather of Derek, Chad and Emily. Dear uncle and great uncle of many nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by Phyllis's daughters; Karen Neeson and Kathy Bird, granddaughter; Kristin, grandsons; Robert and Brad (Laura). Fond brother of Father Hugh Guentner, OSM, current Pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Denver, CO and the late Josephine Murrow. Bern served in the United States Army from ’46 – ’47 and was a member of the American Legion. He was a Registered Professional Engineer in three states working as a transportation planner and designer for H.W. Lochner Engineering Company on street and highway projects for a period of 41 years. During their early retirement years Phyllis and Bern took several oversea vacations but preferred travelling by auto visiting the many places in “America the Beautiful”. Bern enjoyed working with and for people, having served 17 years as President of the Board of Directors for Edelweiss Homeowners Association.
