Bruce Henry Schmiedl died unexpectedly on April 23rd, 2025, in Palos Heights, IL. He was 71 years old. His family is deeply saddened and shocked by his sudden death.
Bruce was born on March 29th, 1954 in Blue Island, Illinois to his parents Robert Lee Schmiedl, and Jean Doris Vollmer, with whom he now joins in God’s loving embrace.
Bruce is survived and missed by his loving wife Cathy of 34 years; and his children: Eric, Rachel and John. He is forever cherished and remembered by his four grandchildren: Robert, Hannah, Rose, and Mark, and their mother Margaret. His younger sister Dianne, brother-in-law Michael, and nephews Ryan and Colin honor his memory.
Bruce was a proud student at Marist High School on Chicago’s South Side, and would later consider it a privilege to serve on the Board of Directors. It was at Marist where he discovered his dream of becoming an Architect, which, as the course of his life would demonstrate in all such endeavors, he steadfastly pursued at the Illinois Institute of Technology. During those years he met his lifelong friend John Vogeltanz, with whom he cultivated a profound reverence for Catholicism. In 1977, Bruce was baptized into the Catholic Church. This faith remained the cornerstone of his life.
To honor a lifetime of love, faithfulness and devotion, all who knew Bruce are invited to the services held in his memory. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, April 30th from 3:00pm until 8:00pm.
