Jean M Vevers

September 23, 1931 — September 30, 2023

Jean M. Vevers (nee Cahill),

Jean was born and raised on the southside of Chicago by her loving parents Walter and Marie Cahill.   Jean was always a very good student and throughout her education was very active in many school activities and clubs.

She was devoted to her older brother Robert (Bob).   While he was serving our country in World War II they corresponded frequently with many hilarious letters and cards.

After graduating from Mercy High School, she was employed at a bank and remained in close contact with some of her high school friends.  Jean loved to travel and went on many excursions with her closest friends from coast to coast including a windjammer cruise in Maine, trips to Florida, Wisconsin, California and many more.

She and her husband Lawrence (Larry) raised three children, Peggy, Dan and Julie in Cottage Grove Heights and then on to Beverly.  Her love of travel continued as the family often visited Door County Wisconsin and many locations in Michigan, as well as trips to Florida and the Smoky Mountains.  Jean returned to work taking a position at the Teamsters Local 710 office, working her way up to being the comptroller where she remained until she retired.   After retiring, Jean enjoyed volunteering at the Lincoln Park Zoo.

She and Larry had often vacationed at the Lane Guest Ranch in Allenspark Colorado.   They enjoyed it so much that for several years Jean worked as the concierge there helping guests plan rafting adventures, horseback and hiking trips.   They finally decided to retire to nearby Estes Park, Colorado where they built their dream home and continued to have many outdoor adventures with new friends, as well as with friends and family members who visited from the Chicago area.

After Larry passed away, Jean returned to Illinois and lived among new friends in Palos Park.   She continued her volunteer activities at Palos Hospital and Lake Katherine.  She also continued to travel, taking trips to the Native American Southwest.  Having never been out of the country, Jean was invited by Peggy and her grandchildren (Alex, Athena and Dan) to join them on a trip to Italy where they had many memorable meals and visits to beautiful sights around Ceriana and San Remo.

Jean was a loving mother and grandmother, devoted White Sox fan, and will be missed dearly by her friends and family.

Beloved Wife of the late Lawrence M Vevers. Loving Mother of Margaret Mikros, Daniel Vevers, and the late Julie Vevers. Cherished Grandmother of Tara Vevers, Alexandra Mikros, Athena Mikros and Dan Mikros, Ciana Bennefield, Gabby Bennefield, Bryson Bennefield, Alex Perry. Devoted Daughter of the late Walter and Marie Cahill. Dear Sister of the late Robert Cahill. Kind Aunt of Marc Nehls, Laura Vevers, Gregory Cahill, Kate Cahill and Mary Cahill.
