John Patrick Lally was born on September 27, 1959, the second of three children born to Mary (nee: Scanlon) and the late Thomas Lally in Evergreen Park, Illinois. Along with his sister Sheila and brother Tom, he was reared in Palos Heights, Illinois. He attended St. Alexander School, graduated from Alan B. Shepard High School and attended Devry University.
John worked as a sterilization technician at Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn and Palos Community Hospital in Palos Heights, Illinois. He was admired by his work colleagues for his expertise and high standards and trained many others in his department. John was a conscientious and helpful co-worker who got along well with others. In 2019, illness forced him to retire at the age of 58.
John loved nature, fishing, ancient history, archeology, paleontology, sports and current events. For better or worse, he was a loyal fan of the Chicago White Sox, Chicago Bears and Notre Dame, and he was practically a walking encyclopedia of sports statistics. John was a master griller and meat carver and enjoyed cooking perfect steaks for family and friends on his Weber charcoal grill. He appreciated his Irish heritage and was fortunate to have made two trips with his family to the “old sod” of Ireland, where he purloined a few ancient rocks as souvenirs.John also enjoyed going to Door County, Wisconsin, and the local forest preserves.
John was handsome, intelligent, witty, and contemplative. He loved his family, friends, and the numerous family cats throughout the years, including Aster. John was loved by many and will be sorely missed.
