  December 24th , 1967 – September 2nd, 2022 Karen Marie Martells of Waterloo, Iowa passed peacefully on September 2nd, 2022. She was born in Oak Lawn, Illinois on December 24th, 1967. She was the beloved girlfriend of Todd McNees. Those left behind to cherish her memory are her children, Jessica Martells, Dean Martells (Karen Boreman), and Emma Martells. Karen was the proud grandmother of Cameron Martells, Mia Sluis, Leyiah Martells, Nathaniel Baker, Alycia Obanion, and Jordan Obanion. Her loving siblings Kathy (Jerry) Prinner, Kelly Powell, John Coleman, Jennifer (Brian) Hornung, and step sister Paula (David) Newton. As well as her step father Mike Kurzydlo. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Coleman and Rose Kurzydlo. Karen attended and graduated from Alan B. Shepard High School.Karen worked very hard supporting her family, wearing many hats over the years. She worked as a dietary technician at Rest Haven Nursing Center in Crestwood, Illinois for many years until moving to Milledgeville, Illinois in the year of 2000. While there, she tried her hand as a factory worker before moving back to Crestwood, Illinois. Eventually she found herself in Waterloo , Iowa where she returned to the food industry . The family would like to acknowledge the significant contribution the doctors and nurses at Unity Point Allen Hospital provided in their help, care, and compassion for her, allowing her to stay comfortable until her passing.   Memorial visitation Saturday, September 24th from 2:00 pm until time of memorial service, 7:00 pm at the KERRY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CARE CENTER, 7020 W. 127th Street, Palos Heights.   Interment will be private.
