With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Kevin James Quain, who entered into eternal life on July 19, 2026, at the age of 71.

Born on August 25, 1954, Kevin lived a life centered on faith, family, service, and love. Throughout his life, he worked many jobs, but the one he cherished the most was his time at Carl Sandburg High School, where he built lasting friendships and touched countless lives.

A lifelong sports enthusiast, Kevin played basketball, baseball, and football in high school. His love for athletics continued long after his playing days, as he spent close to 30 years coaching a variety of sports. Coaching wasn’t just about winning—it was about encouraging young people, teaching life lessons, and helping every child believe in themselves. The athletes he coached always held a special place in his heart.

Above all else, he loved his family. Family was his greatest joy and the center of his life. He shared 49 years with his beloved wife Kathleen, building a life filled with love, laughter, and devotion. He was an incredible father to Shaun, Shannon, and Patrick, always offering guidance, encouragement, and unconditional love.

One of the greatest blessings of his life was becoming a grandfather. His four grandchildren—Eden, Keela, Annaleigh, and William—brought him immeasurable pride and joy. He absolutely adored each of them and treasured every moment they spent together. His love for them was unmistakable. They, in turn, cherished their Grandpa Kev deeply and will forever carry his love, wisdom, and joyful spirit in their hearts. 

Kevin had a remarkable gift for making people laugh with his quick wit, playful spirit, and infectious sense of humor. He never took himself too seriously and believed that life was meant to be enjoyed. Whether it was telling a joke, sharing a funny story, or finding humor in every day moments, he had a way of making everyone around him smile. His laughter was contagious, and the joy he brought others was one of the greatest gifts he shared with the world.

His faith in Jesus Christ was the foundation of his life, giving him strength through every triumph and every challenge. He found peace, strength, joy and the will to persevere in his relationship with the Lord. His faith was evident in the way he loved others and lived each day with compassion, grace and hope. 

He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Wanda Quain, brother Kenneth Quain, sister Linda Hurtado; and his in-laws Robert and Caroline O’Connell.

He is lovingly survived by his wife, Kathleen; his children, Shaun, Shannon, and Patrick; his grandchildren Eden, Keela, Annaleigh, and William, brother Thomas Quain, sister Debbie and her husband Mark Gruca, sister-in-law Patricia Quain, brother-in-law John Hurtado, the O’Connell family; his many beloved nieces and nephews; and his faithful four-legged companion Molly.

Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort knowing Kevin is now at peace in the presence of his Savior. He leaves behind a legacy of unwavering faith, unconditional love, laughter, kindness, and service. He taught those around him to love deeply, laugh often, and never take life —or yourself— too seriously. While we will miss his warm hugs, contagious laughter, and steady presence, we are forever grateful for the countless memories he gave us. His love will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him.

He will be missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
