Mark C. Garritson of Geneseo, Illinois,  formerly of Palos Heights, Ill., passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 14, 2023 at the age of 93. Mark was born in Hammond, Indiana on September 8, 1929 to Mark and Elsie (Brandt) Garritson.
 
Mark loved Chicago sports, especially the Bears, Cubs, and Illini football and basketball. He enjoyed playing golf, fishing, listening to talk radio and spending time at the Hennipin Canal.  He mostly enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. 
Mark married Margaret Van Henkelum on January 12, 1952. She preceded him in death on April 19, 2015. Mark is survived by his children Michael (Elizabeth), JessAnn (Lawrence) Randich, Stephen (Barbara), Caryn (Larry) Vandersnick, and Mark (Christine). He was grandfather to Emily, Christopher, Stephen, Melissa, Stephanie, Ben, Krystal, Connor and Kayla. Mark was also blessed with 8 great grandchildren.
 
Mark attended the University of Illinois and graduated from Bowling Green State University with a bachelor’s degree in business management. He served in the US Air Force as a 2nd Lieutenant Officer during the Korean War. Mark worked in the food industry for 32 years. He was an active member of the Palos Lions Club for 30 years.
 
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, January 21, 2023 at Palos Community Church, 12312 S. 88th Avenue Palos Park, Illinois, with a visitation beginning at 12:30 P.M. followed by a Memorial Service at 2:00 P.M.
 
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Palos Community Church or Friends of Hennipin Canal.
