Mary K. Egan, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2025. Born on September 27, 1946, in Zimmerman, Minnesota, Mary’s life was full of warmth, laughter, and love, woven together through her cherished relationships with family and friends.
Mary worked as a receptionist at a dental office for many years, where her smile and quick wit created an atmosphere of laughter and joy. Her ability to make everyone feel welcomed and important allowed her to form life-long friendships with both colleagues and patients alike. She had the gift of making every interaction memorable, leaving a lasting impact on all those who crossed her path.
Mary’s heart was most full when surrounded by her family, especially her beloved grandchildren, who lovingly called her "Gommie." She treasured each moment spent with them, creating a reservoir of memories that will forever be cherished. The joy of family life was a central theme in Mary’s story, marked by countless gatherings, shared meals, and stories filled with laughter.
A proud Irish woman, Mary carried her heritage with grace, often sporting a shamrock to celebrate her roots. Her passion for her culture was evident in her love for music. Mary was an enthusiastic member of the Sweet Adelines chorus, where she found joy in singing and camaraderie with fellow members. Her love for music was not just a pastime; it was a profound part of who she was.
Mary’s educational journey began at St. Michael's on the Hill elementary school, then St. Joseph Academy high school in St. Paul, Minnesota, after she moved there with her mother following her father's passing in 1953. In 1972, she married the love of her life, John (Jack) Egan, creating a partnership filled with love, laughter and mutual respect. They spent nearly 53 joyous years together, first in Berwyn, Illinois, and then moving to Palos Park in 2004, where they kept making many cherished memories.
Mary is survived by her loving and devoted husband, John (Jack) Egan; her daughters, Bridget Egan and Maureen Egan; her son-in-law, Shawn Flynn; and her son and daughter-in-law, Sean and Nicole (Weber) Egan. She was the proud grandmother of five beautiful grandchildren: Ryan and Erin Babinec, Ava and Jack Egan, and Riley Flynn. Cherished brother in-law and sister in-law, Ed and Pat (Egan) Faley. Additionally, Mary was an aunt to many nieces and nephews, who were touched by her kindness and generosity.
She was preceded in death by her dear parents, Harold and Margaret (Dockery) Jannusch, along with her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Pete and Nancy Morrissey, and Robert and Marianne McKeague. Their memories remain intertwined in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Mary K. Egan's Celebration of Life will be held at Kerry Funeral Home in Palos Heights, Illinois, on November 28, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A Mass will follow at Saint Alexander Church in Palos Heights on November 29, 2025, at 11:30 AM.
Her kindness, humor, and musical spirit will be deeply missed and fondly remembered. Mary’s legacy of love will continue to inspire her family and friends, ensuring that her spirit will live on in their hearts.
