Patricia A. Carlson

Patricia Ann “Pat” Carlson (nee Joyce), of Palos Heights,

Passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Holy Saturday, April 8, 2023.

Pat is survived by her beloved husband of 60 years, Donald C. Carlson. Loving mother of Laura (Bob) Gilarski, Donald (Kelly) Carlson, and Susan Carlson. Cherished grandma “Nana” of Christa and Collin Gilarski, Donald Carlson, and Cailyn Carlson.

Pat was born in Chicago and was the oldest child of Ann and John Joyce. She was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas Joyce.  She is survived by her sisters, Carol Cukay, and Rosemary Smeltzer.

Pat loved to travel and originally worked for American Airlines. After she met and married the man of her dreams, she stayed at home to raise their kids. She later re-entered the workforce as a teacher. She taught pre-school and later spent many years as a devoted special education aide. Weekends and summers were focused on Model T trips, vacations, and quality family time.

After retirement, Pat became an active volunteer for Catholic Charities. She attended mass daily and was a member of the Saint Alexander Blue Army.

Pat and Don also spent many joyful years traveling all over the country on corvette trips. Married for 60 years, Pat and Don had an exceptionally close marriage. In her later years, Pat was cared for by her devoted husband.

Pat always had a warm smile on her face and a kind word for everyone she encountered. Pat will be remembered for her devout faith, patience, kindness, intuitive wisdom, and dedication to her family.

Memorial visitation Thursday, April 13^th from 9:00am until 11:00am at the KERRY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CARE CENTER, 7020 West 127^th Street, Palos Heights. Proceeding to Saint Alexander Catholic Church, 7025 West 126^th Street, Palos Heights, Memorial Mass 11:30am.
