Robert (Bob) Emmet O’Connell passed away on Friday May 26, 2023. Bob was born on June 14, 1930 in Chicago, the son of William and Gladys O’Connell. He married the love of his life, Caroline on October 20, 1951. She preceded him in death on May 26, 2019. They enjoyed a wonderful loving marriage for 67 years. Bob is survived by his three children, Kathleen (Kevin) Quain, Maureen (Bruce) Povalish, Daniel (Sue) O’Connell and 7 grandchildren, Shaun, Katelyn, Shannon, Patrick, Caleigh, Meghan and Colleen. He is also survived by his sister Barbara Jostes and brother-in-law David Ulrich. Bob was also blessed with 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Bill O’Connell and sister Esther Beauchamp.
Bob served in the U.S. Army during the Korean war immediately following his marriage in 1951. He was the owner and founder of a successful construction company from 1958 until his retirement in his seventies. Bob was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a skilled carpenter, building their home and many treasured wooden pieces for his family. Bob was known for his quick wit and always bringing humor to any conversation. Family was Bob’s most important life accomplishment yet he enjoyed golf and traveling. A special heartfelt thanks goes out to Bob’s wonderful neighbors who supported Bob in so many ways.
Family and friends will gather Friday, June 30th at St. Alexander’s, 7025 W. 126th St. Palos Heights, Memorial Mass, 11:30 am.
