Thomas (Tom) J. Butler: Native of Clopook, Muckalee, Ballyfoyle, Co. Kilkenny, Ireland (February 1st, 1944-August 16th, 2026) Son of Michael Butler and Mary Butler Nee Byrne, Co. Kilkenny, Ireland. Devoted husband, survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Butler Nee Mellett from Cleragh, Kiltimagh, Co. Mayo, Ireland.
Loving father to Michael, John, Tina (Michael Leonard), Steven and Jim (Michelle Butler). Beloved brother of the late Martin (Catherine G.), Packie (Mary), John (Joan), and Bridget (John Doyle), Lizzie, Anne (Colum Campbell), Margaret (Nicky Moore). Grandchildren Tom, Sean, Brayden, Katelyn Butler. Cherished by many special nieces and nephews in U.S.A, Canada, Ireland, England & Hong Kong.
Tom was a true Irishman and a committed Catholic. He was also for many years an active member of the AOH, (Ancient Order of Hibernians). He had a sharp wit and was never short of a story, he loved to entertain. He was also a die hard “Kilkenny Cat”! During his working years Tom was a tremendous worker and often worked multiple jobs. He was an avid sportsman; hurling was his game.
He will be remembered for his monthly column in the Irish American News and love of sharing Irish history & culture. "The harp that once through Tara's halls the soul of music shed, now hangs as mute on Tara's walls as if that soul were fled.” (Thomas Moore, Dublin) He planted love in every heart he touched, and God called him home to tend his highest garden.
Ar dheis de go raibh a anam (May his soul be at Gods right hand).
