Thomas Joseph Stuchly, age 86, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born on December 5, 1939, in Chicago, Illinois, Tom had been a cherished resident of Palos Heights since 1972.
Tom was the devoted husband of the late Dee Stuchly, with whom he shared 60 years of marriage until her passing in 2023. He was a loving father to Mary Sue, Patricia Ann, and Kathryn Marie (Darek) Jaronczyk, and a proud grandfather to Reggie, Matthew, Luke, Elizabeth, Audrey, and Keira. He was also a fond uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Tom was the beloved son of the late Joseph and Helen Stuchly. He was preceded in death by his sister, Susan Wilson, and is survived by his dear sister, Clare (Larry) Bergnach.
Tom graduated from Chicago Vocational High School in 1958. A proud veteran, he served in the United States Marine Corps and was stationed at Camp LeJeune, NC. Following his military service, Tom worked as a skilled union carpenter alongside his father before establishing and managing his own general contracting business for over 40 years, Tri Gen Construction. Through his work, Tom helped build many notable commercial structures throughout Chicago’s southwest suburbs, including schools, fire stations, and banks. Not one to retire easily, Tom later spent more than 20 years working in real estate. Known for his professionalism, deep knowledge, and strong work ethic, he earned the respect and admiration of all who worked with him.
Tom’s faith was the cornerstone of his life. He was a devoted and active member of St. Alexander’s Parish, where he served as an usher for more than 50 years and also as a Eucharistic Minister. He was an active member and former Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus at St. Alexander’s Parish and, alongside Dee and close friends, participated in many parish programs.
Family was Tom’s greatest love and source of pride. As the father of three daughters, he was the quintessential “girl dad,” yet somehow convinced his girls to share his love of the Chicago Blackhawks and motorsports, including snowmobiling and NASCAR. He deeply cherished his grandchildren and made it a priority to attend their baseball, basketball, and volleyball games, as well as dance recitals, music concerts, and graduations.
Tom and Dee shared countless adventures traveling together and spent their later years enjoying time in Arizona and California. Tom also loved attending theater performances and live music, playing dominoes, and gathering for dinners—especially when banana cream pie was on the menu—with friends and family.
Tom’s kindness, warmth, and outgoing nature brightened every room he entered. He had a genuine interest in everyone he met, making him a friend to all. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and neighbors and remembered always for his generous spirit, deep faith, and unwavering love of life. As the quote reminds us, “In the end, it’s not the years in your life that count; it’s the life in your years.” Tom lived this truth fully—packing his 86 years with purpose, devotion, laughter, service, and love. Through the relationships he nurtured, the faith he practiced, and the impact he made on his family and community, Tom truly lived a rich and meaningful life, leaving a legacy that will endure in the hearts of all who knew him.
