Bart Johnson was a legion in the South Bay area of the Los Angeles, CA. I attended a rival high school at North Torrance, while he attended Torrance High School. Basketball was my sport and I was a year behind Bart. He was the best player I had ever seen as a young high schooler. He was a hero to many of us who watched, followed and played against him. I went on to play basketball at USC on scholarship, and the lore of one Bart Johnson of Torrance High was vibrant … It is of great sadness to hear another great South Bay athlete has gone on to rest at peace … Bart Johnson's fame and exploits will live on long past his passing. Condolences to the Bart Johnson family, they know better than anyone the greatness of one Bart Johnson!!!

My sister Marilyn, brother Mike & I grew up next door to Bart on Sonoma St. Our neighborhood was fun and sometimes wild with all things kids do - front yard talent shows, (Bart’s dancing partner was his big sister Diane). Walking fences, making stilts & skateboards. Neighborhood fights. Street softball games, (Steve Kealey who grew up to play for Angels and Chi White Sox also lived on our street). Sometimes they let my little brother Mike play..
Will always remember and miss Bart for his quirky, funny personality - could make you laugh before he said a word. Was fortunate to spend 1st semester at BYU with him and Jane there...many laughs! Later our paths crossed several times during Ken’s baseball years - more laughs...
Sad to know he’s gone. Ken & I extend our hearts and prayers to his family. RIP Bart

Godspeed Bart. I didn't know you as well as I knew your lovely wife. She was a good worker a friendly person and had a wonderful infectious laugh. I hope the Lord can put you in His lineup but without the Bill Veck Bermuda shorts.

My brother Robin and I were close friends of Bart at Torrance High. A phenomenal athlete, he could jump outa’ the gym. I remember dunkin’ at the hoops at Torrance Park till the rec leader told us to go home (way past sundown). Bart was a good friend and will always be remembered.
