Lucille Kock Schneider
Died January 29, 2020 at the age of 96. Her husband of 67 years, George, and her son-in-law Donald Urbanciz preceded her in death. She is survived by her older sister, Vivian Anderson of Orland Park,
her son Gary and wife Barbara of Falmouth, MA, her daughter Cynthia Urbanciz of Frankfort, IL, grandson Doug Urbanciz and wife Kris of Chaska, MN, granddaughter Jennifer Schneider Hommeyer and
husband Michael of Bronxville, NY, grandson Jason Urbanciz and wife Trish of New Lenox, IL and grandson Peter Schneider and wife Jessie Donavan of Middlebury, VT. She also leaves great-grandsons Dan
and Ben Urbanciz, Jack and Sean Urbanciz, Jack and Nick Hommeyer and Griffin, and Eliot Schneider as well as great-granddaughter Ava Schneider, along with a niece and nephew and their families.
Lucille grew up in Beverly, IL attending Morgan Park High School and graduating in 1941. She married George, a navy pilot, in 1944. They spent the war years moving from naval air base to naval
air base as George trained and then trained others to land on aircraft carriers. When they returned home, George and Lucille lived in an apartment in her parents’ home as did her sister and her
husband. When they decided to move to the suburbs, both sisters built homes only two doors apart in Palos Park and continued to live side by side. This closeness came full circle when
George and Lucille moved to Smith Crossing 15 years ago where Lucille’s sister was already a resident. The sisters grew to be well-known to the residents and staff over the years as they ate together
every evening, showed up for bank day on Wednesdays, played bingo on Thursdays and met often at the Bistro. Two sisters, 98 and 96, able to live independently until the last few months is worth
celebrating. A long-time member of the Palos Park Presbyterian Community Church, Lucille also set a longevity record at the Palos Heights Library as its longest employee when she retired from
Technical Services. She was familiar with every book as she was in charge of checking each in and assigning its Dewey Decimal number! Lucille was an incredible knitter, passing along that love
to her daughter and to a few of the grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well who loved to show her their knitting in hopes of getting her approval, or sometimes her help in tearing something out
and redoing it. While she will be missed, she always said that she wanted her stone that she will share with George at the Veterans’ Cemetery to say “Together Again” and her family takes comfort in
knowing that is exactly where they both are. A private memorial service will take place in March.
